About Maurice van Cooten

Materials such as stone, clay, metal and earth pigments used for painting reflect the primal forces Maurice likes to express throughout the collections of art. Passionate about the abundant beauty of a natural surrounding, New Zealand; subjects such as the landscapes and bird life of the Waitakeres, West Coast of Auckland, are absorbed by Maurice in his daily existence. Art works are suggestive of places, plants, horizons, beaches, species and emphasis is placed on expression. The art works created are vessels for symbols or archetypes of New Zealand, The World, The Cosmos and beyond.

"The problem of contemporary sculpture and the garden is one which has rankled in my mind for years. It is usually resolved through a process of inversion-that is turning it into sculpture in the garden as against garden sculpture. By that I mean the sculptor takes over the garden as an open exhibition gallery, of which the focus is their creation, to which the world of nature merely provides the frame. The Idea that sculpture is a contributory element to an overall'mise en scene',in which, sometimes its role may be incedental rather than central, has been lost.In this we have seen the betrayall of the great tradition of garden sculpture, one which was unashamed at being decorative or delightful."

Customer comment on 'Standing female (nude Contemporary Wall statue/decoration/sculpture)' by William Ashley-Norman
This lovely sculpture has been arrived without any problem. Now it is sitting in my house. We will move it to our new place for public showcase when the whole decoration has finished.

I will keep you update with our project soon. Thanks for your big help, anyway. We are still evaluating the whole space to see if we need to purchase one or two Nikki Taylor`s sculptures as well.
